The Knotty Pine was built in the early 1940’s after the salmon hotel burned down. It served the community as a gathering place with family dinning, until Lee and Freda Crebbs bought it. In those days The Knotty Pine was known as a burly saloon with gambling, slot machines and spirits. It was said on Saturday nights Wild and Crazy Freda would ride her palomino horse up to the bar for a bucket of beer. The bucket left a groove in the bar that can still be seen today.

The “Justice of the Peace” finally declared the Knotty Pine would no longer be allowed to serve liquor and the bar was closed. When the Knotty Pine reopened it soon became a great little variety store, with a snack and ice cream bar. The store served as an unofficial chamber of commerce and information center.

Beth Peterson

Bill and Beth Peterson purchased the store in 1970. The old codgers club was formed, consisting of a bunch of old guys sit’n around drink’n coffee and solving the worlds problems. The Knotty Pine has always been a place to meet. In 1993 the youngest daughter of the Peterson’s, Barb Pilcher bought the store. She has modernized while still preserving the historical atmosphere. Sit Back and Enjoy!
